Professional experience

Experience

My professional experience spans secondary Mathematics teaching, completed school-based teacher training, SEND support, tutoring and undergraduate mathematics education.

I am currently Teacher of Mathematics at The Cornerstone Academy in Poole. Before this, I completed a salaried SCITT route leading to Qualified Teacher Status and a PGCE, with substantial classroom teaching experience across different school contexts.

School teaching

Classroom experience across different contexts

My school experience has developed from mathematics and SEND support into sustained classroom responsibility and a full-time Teacher of Mathematics role.

Current position

Teacher of Mathematics

The Cornerstone Academy · Poole

Current

Full-time secondary Mathematics teaching, building on the classroom practice and professional formation developed through my salaried school-based teacher-training route.

Salaried SCITT

Teacher of Mathematics and Science

The Regis School · Bognor Regis

Taught Mathematics across KS3–KS4 and Science while completing a salaried school-based route to QTS and PGCE. The role combined sustained classroom teaching with mentoring, observation, professional study and reflective development.

  • Planned and taught Mathematics across KS3 and KS4.
  • Taught Science alongside Mathematics during the training year.
  • Developed classroom practice in questioning, modelling, scaffolding, assessment and independent practice.
  • Worked within the routines, curriculum and professional expectations of a secondary school.

Second school placement

Mathematics teaching placement

Paddington Academy · London

Completed a contrasting school placement during teacher training, gaining experience of different pupil groups, curriculum structures and classroom contexts.

  • Taught a Year 7 nurture group.
  • Taught Year 9 Foundation Mathematics.
  • Taught Year 9 Higher Mathematics.
  • Observed A-level Mathematics teaching.

Mathematics and SEND support

Mathematics Graduate Teaching Assistant

The Charter School North Dulwich · London

Supported Mathematics learning and pupils with additional educational needs through one-to-one, small-group and in-class support across KS3 and KS4.

This experience strengthened my understanding of pupil starting points, barriers to learning and the importance of adapting support while retaining appropriate academic expectations.

Evidence of pupil progression

Year 8 Mathematics

Taught a Year 8 Mathematics class in which nearly one-third of pupils progressed to a higher Mathematics set over the academic year.

This is presented as evidence of pupil progression during the period in which I taught the class, rather than as a claim that any single teacher or intervention was solely responsible for the outcome.

Inclusive experience

Supporting pupils with different starting points

Before and during teacher training, I worked with pupils requiring different levels and forms of support. This included SEND support, nurture teaching, lower-confidence learners and pupils working across different levels of mathematical attainment.

These experiences inform my approach to scaffolding: support should make worthwhile Mathematics accessible while preserving a route towards increasing independence.

Broader teaching experience

Tutoring, volunteering and university-level Mathematics

My teaching experience extends beyond the secondary classroom, including tutoring, educational volunteering and undergraduate mathematics education.
